Checking Oil
Pre-Check Supplies – What do you need to check the oil in your Kia? All you really need is either a paper towel or a lint-free cloth. This is for wiping off the dipstick and is the only extra item you need to do so. Otherwise, everything else is just locating various areas in the vehicle.
Pop the Hood & Locate the DipstickĀ – When you are ready to check your vehicle’s oil levels, make sure to turn off your Kia if it has been running. Give it time to cool off. Lift the hood and secure it with the vehicle’s hood prop. After doing so, start checking around for a handle that has a picture of an oil can on it. This is the oil dipstick and must be removed to check the oil levels.
Wipe Off Stick, Reinsert, Remove AgainĀ – After you have pulled out the dipstick and wiped it off with your towel, reinsert it back into its tube. Wait a couple of seconds and then remove it again. The dipstick will have notches or markings that signify whether the oil level is high or low. As long as the top of the oil line is in-between the two, you are good to go. Contact Thelen Kia immediately if you notice the levels are getting close to or below the low marking.
