Getting Your Vehicle Road Trip Ready

Are you planning an upcoming road trip? Before you head on the road, here are some helpful tips and recommended services your car, crossover, or SUV may need before a longer road trip.

Five Tips for Getting Your Kia Ready

Stock Up on Supplies – Be well prepared with essential supplies to stay comfortable and safe on your trip. Stock up on water, snacks, and emergency supplies like a first aid kit, flashlight, and roadside assistance tools. Don’t forget to pack chargers for your electronic devices, entertainment options such as books or games, and navigation aids like maps or GPS device.

Clean Your Car – Start by washing the exterior of your vehicle to remove dirt, grime, and road salt buildup. Use a mild car shampoo and a soft sponge or microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the paint surface. Pay special attention to areas prone to dirt buildup, such as the grille, wheel wells, and lower body panels. Or trust the experts at the Thelen Kia Detailing Center to take care of that for you!

Inspect for Leaks, Smells, and Noises – Use your senses! Have you noticed a new leak or an odd smell? We recommend bringing your vehicle in two weeks before your trip — if extensive repairs are necessary, this will not only ensure there’s plenty of time to complete them, but it will also allow you a few extra days afterward to drive around your neighborhood just to make sure everything is working well.

Replace Your Cabin Air Filter – This little filter is responsible for trapping contaminants from the outside air and ensuring your air conditioner’s airflow will not be challenged on the road, but not if it’s old and dirty. Signs include a musty smell when turning on your air conditioning, poor airflow, and air not blowing as cold as usual.

Check Your Tires – Tires are your vehicle’s point of contact with the road, making their condition critical for your safety and vehicle performance. Before embarking on your trip, check the pressure, tread depth, if the wear is even, and that you have a spare tire just in case.
